I recently purchased two Ursacks for my bicycle trip across Canada this summer (yes this is happening!!).   I had never heard of an ursack until a couple days ago, and if you are like me – let me give you a little introduction to this product:

Ursacks are an option for dealing with bears while camping – a light-weight, compact, alternative to bear cannisters for storing your food.  They are bags made of kevlar, ie. bullet-proof fabric – and you use another product called an Opsack (an odour-proof bag) to line it.  After watching many videos of bears trying unsuccessfully to get into these things, I feel pretty confident that a bear cannot get at your food – as long as you tie your knots correctly.

Now this brings me to a bit of a challenge – I am not very good with knots, and the instructions they give you are not the best.  In fact they only tell you how to do the double overhand closure knot, but just name-drop the figure 8 knot required to tie the thing to a tree (or other solid object).   So I did a bit of my own research, and with the results decided to make a little video for others out there trying to figure this thing out.

Any feedback – especially something I am doing wrong – would be greatly appreciated!!
