Winnipeg – Richer

To go: 4,947 km

We spent the better part of the day exploring Winnipeg.  And I sent almost 10 lbs of my gear home!  What freedom!!  This included: solar charger & battery, bear bag, vest, front light for my bike (I still have a headlamp), various odds and ends… I feel liberated!  I am excited to ride now that I have lost weight and gained space… it is only a matter of time until it is filled I am sure – hmmmm what will I fill it with? :)   … probably food….

Winnipeg is a cool city – I love the old buildings and all the green spaces. It seems like the River Walk would be lovely, but it is closed for construction – I am not sure what happened to it, but Emily mentioned it was underwater during the time she lived in Winnipeg, so that must have something to do with it!   We checked out an area called the Forks – where the Assiniboine and the Red Rivers meet.  There is a lovely park here and a market reminiscent of Granville Island. I bought some soap that is supposed to keep the mosquitoes away… we shall see….

BeFunky_DSC_0351.jpgWe left town around 4pm and rode out to Richer.  We had dinner at a highway-side restaurant then moseyed our way out to the campground.  Sometime during my shower I heard the rainstorm begin…. by the pounding on the roof I started to worry about the camp… did I leave anything out?  I rushed through the shower and emerged into the rainstorm in time to find the tent in a growing lake – in a panic, stakes were pulled out of the ground and our camp was pulled to higher ground…. the inside of my tent was only somewhat wet – I have one small hole in the bottom that had let in some water, but miraculously most of my stuff was dry!

  1. Real time updates? Are you just behind on your blog?

  2. Yes – I am incredibly behind on the blog – probably 1,000 km or so…
