Wawa – Montreal River

This morning was a flash from the past – we had breakfast in a little truck stop with one lone server running around like mad. It reminded me of my days waitressing up North and I had this uncontrollable urge to grab the coffee pot and run a round of refills.

The ride today through Lake Superior Provincial Park was absolutely beautiful – the best views we have had of Superior to date. I loved cresting a hill, seeing the lake below and cruising down to take a break on the beach – made the climbing worth it.

Did you know Lake Superior is so large it can contain all the other Great Lakes within it??!!

We had our first experience of being offered money today – does this mean we look like bums?? Probably… I can’t remember when I last showered….. But anyway, Alex was offered $20 by a nice older lady travelling with her husband. Alex tried to protest, but she insisted. She will be buying our dinner tonight – thank you Kind Stranger!

It was an exhausting day and I could not wait to get to food. Montreal River is a very small place – not really a town – just a gas station that closed at 8pm (we missed it) and a campground (Twilight Resort) with a little canteen where we had a dinner of poutine and burgers. I was so stuffed and ill after dinner I was cursing Alex (you know because you have to curse someone) as we trudged up another hill trying to find a place to camp. I was ready just to lie down on the grass outside the canteen!
